Description

This was my first ever attempt at autoguiding. I was using the Nexstar 4se OTA as the guidescope centered on Acrux. It was basically just a proof of concept image, and it managed to become my most famous! As it turns out you can actually autoguide the nexstar SE Alt-Az mount whilst on an equatorial wedge. This can be done by using ASCOM drivers, controlling the mount with just a usb webcam. However I had problems with the webcam not being sensitive enough to pick up many stars at all, greatly limiting my options. I could have really used with some flat frames, and a more precise polar alignment, however at the point of taking this image I was not that advanced!
